ZEN has been increasingly and quietly penetrating in Europe. Also in Japan, the art of ZEN and other traditional cultures influenced by ZEN have recently began to be reevaluated. In Japanese garden culture, there is a tradition to miniaturize nature, sometimes to connote infinite universe. I believe that this miniaturization was established because Japanese gardens and Bonsais are the reflections of the pantheistic value in Shintoism and Zen meditation in Buddhism. I have long sought how to make wall ornaments that represent Japanese gardens and have repeated trial-and-errors. And I have finally got important clues in the mode of living in the Edo period and illustrated guides to biology published around then. I named the ornaments "Gallery Garden" and am now working on it.
This is a folding screen with Japanese caligraphy. It represents a flat garden.
This is a collage, based on a wood block print of EDO ERA.
This is a post card of pressed leaves.
